History

The Night Owl Christian concept has pursued the author, fluttering around in her thoughts, for many years, and Jesus just wouldn’t let her forget His idea. Substack provides the platform that fits perfectly with the Lord’s and the author’s vision.

Notes on Substack

“Notes” are Substack’s alternative to X (Twitter), I write occasional notes on Substack:

You can also use the “Notes” link in the heading at the top of the page. The best experience is Substack’s mobile app which you can download for free.

Chats on Substack

I like this Substack feature but only use it occasionally. Feel free to send me a Chat message, and I’ll respond. Here’s my post about this feature:

Chat with Night Owl Christian

After you have downloaded the Substack mobile app to your phone (and/or tablet), you can turn on Notifications (I won’t be chatting frequently), or you can just open the app and check for new Chats from me from time to time.

Why Subscribe?

If you’re a regular reader of Substack posts from the posts shared on Facebook or (Twitter)X, or in the Substack app, if you subscribe (for free) you’ll receive my normally once a week posts in your email inbox.

Subscribe to get full access to this newsletter and its website. You’ll never miss an update. Every new post in the Night Owl Christian newsletter goes directly to your email inbox or Substack app early each Sunday morning.

And, no need to be a Christian to subscribe; not-yet Christ believers are welcome!

Currently, all readers can subscribe to Night Owl Christian for free! After you have subscribed, the button’s label changes to allow you to financially support NOC if you wish.

Soli Deo Gloria. Thank you!

The Author

Who is the author? She is a long-time fan of C. S. Lewis, JRR Tolkein, Aslan, hobbits, second breakfast, elevensies, the Early Church fathers and mothers (especially Sts. Perpetua and Felicitas), and the Divine Liturgy. She mixes it up with Lutherans, Presbyterians, Anglicans, Episcopalians, Eastern Orthodox, Roman Catholic, and—yes—Baptist and Nondenom friends. She also attends evangelical, nondenominational Bible churches on occasions (which she critiques after services and during second breakfast, elevensies, or lunch). She and her husband found their current church home in 2024, in a local Lutheran fellowship (LCMC).

She takes all of these fellowships to task when they fall away from the gospel truth, for doing so endangers the souls of God’s precious image bearers.

A cradle church-goer, NOC was:

  • Sprinkled as an infant in her family’s Presbyterian church

  • Confirmed in the Lutheran Church (a great experience!)

  • Saved by grace through faith as a young teen during the “Jesus People” movement of the early 1970s (and rescued from the occult and Wicca)

  • Baptized by immersion while in college in a river outside of Toledo, Spain, by a Methodist missionary (sshhh, don’t tell our Lutheran pastor)

Rescued by Jesus, the Son of God, while exploring witchcraft and Wicca practices during her teenage years, NOC has experienced the evil spiritual realm (the demonic), and rejoices in the unique and absolute power and might of the King of kings, who lovingly calls her His rescued and redeemed one.

Welcome! I love the Lord and His word.
