The U.S. Presidential Election 2024
How are you going to deal with the election results? | Random Thoughts | Jesus Christ | Christianity
Election Day Is Coming
Waking Up on Wednesday
If you’re reading this on publication day (Sunday, November 3rd), it’s two days before an important U.S. presidential election.
Dear reader, no matter the country you live in, the results of this U.S. election will reverberate around the world.
Born for Such a Time as This
And, you and I were born for such a time as this, to serve our Lord Jesus by serving others as His ambassador of good news. If you’re not sure you were born for such a time as this, I encourage you to read the post I published on the subject some weeks ago (August 25th):
Do Not Worry, Do Not Fear
Remember, whatever we wake up to the day after the election, and what we discover during the days and weeks that follow, do not worry and do not fear. Lean into Who our heavenly Father is and Whose you are (meaning, what He says about you). [Read my Halloween Challenge 2024]
Matthew 10:28 (BSB)
28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Instead, fear the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.
And…
Luke 12:32 (BSB)
32 Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father is pleased to give you the kingdom.
The Election Results
What if Your Candidate Loses?
What are you going to do if your candidate loses? Are you going to live in anger? Will you live in fear of what might happen to you if the political platform and the policies you desired to see implemented don’t occur? Will you get involved in violent actions? How will you treat your political opponents who are happy their candidate won, especially if they’re family and friends?
What if Your Candidate Wins?
What will you do if your candidate wins? Will you be gracious with your political opponents who are grieving their loss? Will you rejoice appropriately but also be willing to listen to disappointments expressed by others, especially by family and friends?
Seek God’s Wisdom
In either case as it applies to you, will you seek God’s wisdom in how you will live for Jesus throughout 2025 and beyond? If you’d like a suggestion, begin with reading all of John chapter 17 [ESV, BibleGateway.com] and have a quiet, intimate chat with your Abba.
John 17:13-19 (BSB)
13 But now I am coming to You; and I am saying these things while I am in the world, so that they may have My joy fulfilled within them. 14 I have given them Your word and the world has hated them; for they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.15 I am not asking that You take them out of the world, but that You keep them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them by the truth; Your word is truth. 18 As You sent Me into the world, I have also sent them into the world. 19 For them I sanctify Myself, so that they too may be sanctified by the truth.
Live as an Ambassador for Jesus
Serve Him in the Battle Zone
Yes, there is absolute right and wrong, as defined by Yahweh, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. And some political platforms are absolutely wrong and evil. As Jesus followers we’re active in spiritual warfare against our enemies in the unseen realm, not against flesh and blood (your political opponents).
Ephesians 6:10-12 (BSB)
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can make your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this world’s darkness, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
These verses are not a cliché to read and move on. We need to live out Ephesians 6:10-20 every day whether our candidate loses or wins.
Dealing with a Worse-Case Scenario
I’ve been asked, “What will you do if we lose our constitutional republic, and America’s government becomes a tyrannical system?”
I will do my best to be an ambassador for Jesus and represent Him well to the fallen world around me. I anticipate that there may be times when I will feel fear. That’s why I focus on learning from Him Who He is (and why the demons tremble) and who I am in Him.
Frankly, I’m always planning for a possible change in the U.S. government because of the eras I’ve lived through: The Cold War and the Vietnam War. When I was five years old, I learned how to “duck-and-cover” under my school desk once a month. When the monthly test of the air-raid siren blasted its warning a block from my school, my classmates and I immediately dove under our small desks and covered our heads to protect us from a nuclear bomb. From an early age, I learned about political differences and consequences, the Soviets, the threat of communism, and atheistic governments’ stripping Christians of their ability to worship God openly.
At church, I heard stories from missionaries of believers in communist-bloc countries who worshiped “underground” in hidden locations, and who smuggled “illegal” Bibles to small-group meetings. I learned about Voice of the Martyrs [www.persecution.com], and to this day I watch their videos on their YouTube channel and I read their blog posts. Why? I want to learn how to stand firm and persevere as they do if my government ever strips me of my ability to worship God openly. Their persecution stories sometimes are frightening, and yet they teach me how to be an ambassador for Jesus, and how to trust Him and rest in His presence no matter life’s circumstances.
Living as Jesus’ ambassadors means we speak up for His truth and we walk our talk through actions that glorify Him.
The Skills of Secular Ambassadors
We can learn from the secular world of diplomacy. Ambassadors, as a role, have existed for thousands of years. I’m going to mention two topics I found on this webpage: “The Skills of Diplomacy” from the National Museum of American Diplomacy.
A couple of topics caught my attention because of the increasing angry, hate-filled rhetoric that I hear from the media and read on social-media platforms:
Communication
Composure
Communication
“Communication is the ability to articulate your position and listen openly to others’ viewpoints. Determine where interests overlap. Those with communication skills can also confirm positions and use clear and appropriate language to avoid misunderstandings.”
My hope and prayer for 2025 is to improve how I communicate the gospel to those who God brings my way. I know His Holy Spirit will guide me.
Composure
“Composure is the ability to work with others in a professional manner and calmly deal with the range of attitudes and behaviors exhibited by counterparts, difficult partners, and adversaries.”
As much as I love my country, my true home and my primary loyalty is to our Triune LORD God. Yahweh’s strongest desire is to rescue His cherished image bearers from sin, death, and our unseen evil enemy who holds them captive. Jesus sacrificed so much when He came to Earth to die and redeem us, to rise again and conquer death, and to give us the free gift of eternal life.
My prayer is that I may honor Him by living as an ambassador of His who communicates His position, and who demonstrates composure to create a welcoming environment for people to hear His good news.
Will you join me?
John 14:27 (BSB)
27 Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled; do not be afraid.
~~~~~
John 16:33 (BSB)
33 I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take courage; I have overcome the world!”
Amen.
Maranatha, come Lord Jesus.
Soli Deo Gloria!
I believe that you have stated the perfect will of God and yet I believe that Ecclesiastes 3:8 says “ A to love and a time to hate a time of war and a time of peace. We are commanded to pray for the peace of Jerusalem but at the same time I believe that Jewish nation has the right to defend themselves and there is no doubt that God saw them through the holocaust. I don’t know what will happen in either case of this election and I am willing to die for my country and beliefs and I do think there will be civil unrest in either case but as to what I will do: my hope is to be led by the Spirit of God! I do believe that we are born in times for this and God knew us from our mother’s womb. He also knows our days ahead.
May the Lord of heaven and earth bless our paths and guide us in His perfect will for our lives!
GOD bless you, Jenise, and yours. Yes, I will join you in honoring our King, Jesus, by being an ambassador, bringing the good news, which is the only hope for a better and everlasting life. A Kingdom is coming, where there will be no more wars, no more death or tears or hardship, no longer will there be pain or suffering, a new life, a secure future, a sure hope.
"So, we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:18 BSB
Temporal: brief, a fleeting moment, perishable, not lasting, transient, temporary.
Eternal: everlasting, endless, continual, not perishable, enduring forever, infinite.
"Now this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent." John 17:3 BSB
It is so easy to become distracted from what's most important, which is knowing the only true GOD and Jesus Christ, the Savior, who was sent to save us all from this fallen world.
It is now more evident than ever that everything is spinning out of control worldwide. The complete instability of our governmental systems has resulted from rejecting the guidance and direction of the LORD. Thus, a rebellion (a battle) against His authority is ensuing.
"We know that we are of God and that the whole world is under the power of the evil one." 1 John 5:19 BSB
Important note: Most, if not all, of the election systems of the world, have been captured by wicked self-proclaimed elites knowing and unknowingly working for Satan and his fallen angels to bring about the destruction of all humanity. We are now voting in this election and all others not to determine the election's outcome but to obey GOD's command to resist evil (the devil).
"So, humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." James 4:7 NLT
Only the LORD will ultimately determine the election results according to His perfect plan, even if the outcome doesn't seem to be in our best interest. So, whatever happens, remember that our GOD is still and will always be in absolute control. He is sovereign. Yes, He is sovereign!
"Do not be overcome by evil but overcome evil with good." Romans 12:21 BSB
As the Ambassadors of Christ with a mission of bringing His message of hope to a lost world, we are to continue doing what the LORD has called each of us to do.
2 Corinthians 5:17-21 BSB
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away. Behold, the new has come! All this is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to Himself in Christ, not counting men's trespasses against them. And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making His appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ: Be reconciled to God. God made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God."
Reconciliation: a restoration, taking down the wall of separation between us and GOD, a uniting, a restored relationship.
Let us Pray.
Father, as the days grow darker, help us to remember that You are Sovereign. Everything that is happening now is in Your absolute control. Your plans are perfect. Help us to trust in You completely and continue to stay close to You, abiding in Your presence, being renewed and strengthened, standing in Your mighty power to resist evil as we bring the good news, the Gospel of reconciliation, to a lost and hopeless world in Jesus' Name we pray, Amen.
Thank You, LORD.
GOD bless you all!
We will praise the LORD in the storm. Yes, we will continue to sing songs of victory.
