Pray for True Peace
As world-wide conflicts rage on, pray for and share Yahweh's redeeming shalom | Random Thoughts | Jesus Christ | Christianity

You Are God’s Agent of Peace
A Look at a False Peace
The hippies’ era of the 1960s in the United States included demonstrations for peace, by the “peaceniks”, while the war with Vietnam raged on and on. “Flower children” wore tie-dye t-shirts with peace symbol jewelry around their necks or printed on clothing. Hundreds, and sometimes thousands, attended “Love Ins”, peaceful gatherings to protest the war while listening to their favorites bands and singers (these gatherings often included much “free love” activity, alcohol, and drugs). Almost everyone has heard of Woodstock, the largest gathering of that time.
Their years of calling for peace didn’t work for it was all based on human effort.
Last week, another 400 Nigerian Christians were murdered by terrorists
Israel and Iran are bombing each other
Yesterday, the U. S.’s B-2 stealth bombers hit the nuclear sites in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan (Esfahan) in Iran
The Ukraine/Russia war continues
Persecution of Christians is nonstop in many countries (see Persecution.com)
The Author of True Peace
None of this, nor previous conflicts nor the conflicts yet to come, surprise Yahweh, the unique Creator God of the universe. Ever since His human image bearers sinned against Him by their disobedience and rebellion, creating a life of chaos and conflict, God has always seen a different future for humanity. He created and entered into a covenant of peace and restoration with humanity through Abraham and fulfilled by Jesus. He calls humanity back to Him, back to His peace, if they will walk that journey with Him.
What Is God’s Peace?
It’s His shalom ( שָׁלוֹם ).
Shalom means peace, completeness, well-being, rest, safety, prosperity, happiness, health, good welfare.
God’s peace in you means you are truly whole for only God can make you complete.
Through the promised Messiah, Jesus, God heals all the brokenness inside of you because of sin and restores you with His shalom. He also gives you His promised safety, joy, and well-being in eternity, when you’ll get to spend every moment with Him, the Lord of true peace and love.
“Love Ins” can’t do this. Street protests can’t bring peace. International organizations cannot accomplish what only God can do.
All human effort, however noble, is only a temporary bandage. Eventually, conflict and chaos raise their ugly heads again because of sin.
Our Role in God’s Peace
We are called to share God’s solution for humanity’s sin problem. He has called us, His followers, to pray for peace for the world. But our prayers for humanity are to be for His true, redeeming peace for all human kind.
His saving peace.
Only Jesus’ peace can give us and humanity true peace. Jesus made this clear during His earthly mission. He not only embodied God’s true peace, He destroyed sin and death, and overcame the world’s evil authorities, principalities, and powers.
John 16:33 (BSB)
33 I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take courage; I have overcome the world!”
Jesus said these words to the disciples after He told them:
All that lay ahead for Him (crucifixion, resurrection)
How these events would impact them (sadness, fear, abandonment)
What they would face soon after He returned to the Father, and the Holy Spirit came to them (His ascension, festival of Pentecost, joy, power)
What their future would hold (persecutions, trials, and death)
It was a very heavy conversation. Here’s the link to John chapter 16 if you’d like to review it.
How did the disciples respond?
John 16:29-30 (BSB)
29 His disciples said, “See, now You are speaking plainly and without figures of speech. 30 Now we understand that You know all things and that You have no need for anyone to question You. Because of this, we believe that You came from God.”
The disciples’ eyes of faith began to open to the only true peace—Father God’s peace through His Son Jesus, Emmanuel. The disciples’ revelation was huge for these Jews were raised in Israel’s Hebrew culture, hoping for the promised Messiah. And there He was, right before their eyes. After Pentecost, they traveled to where God led them and they shared His message of peace with the pagan world.
Your Turn
“Okay, Night Owl Christian,” you may say. “As a believer I know all of this already.”
True. And yet, as people around us wonder if World War Three might begin, God has a clear message for you. For me.
Consider this post a quiet and gentle exhortation to action as God’s agent of peace.
What are you doing about all of this?
As you watch or read the news, are you praying for all those involved? Are you praying for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the affected region you’re reading about? Are you praying for their salvation?
Or, are you watching the news, making comments about it, and then you move on to Insta, to X/Twitter, to TikToc, an e-book or a paper book, a movie, or whatever without praying for their souls?
If someone you know pulls you aside and quietly shares their fears with you, because of all of this conflict, how will you respond?
Will you encourage a fellow believer to stand firm by spending time in God’s word together?
Will you share with a not-yet believer Jesus’ story of salvation, redemption, and victory over the world’s powers?
One day, this world will end and be replaced by God’s new heaven and new earth.
But in the meantime, as conflicts rise and fall, and chaos and confusion threaten to disturb humanity in horrific ways, remember this:
Pray for God’s true peace for all, and walk every day as His agent of His peace.
Maranatha, come soon Lord Jesus.
Soli Deo Gloria!
