Praying Over a Gratitude Journal
Welcome to the final post in my November 2022 Gratitude Journal series. In the earlier posts, I touched on:
For this final post, when I first thought about the words, “Praying Over a Gratitude Journal”, I said to myself:
Hmm, that seems pretty obvious.
But, maybe it’s not. Honestly, I hadn’t prayed much over my gratitude journal. It never occurred to me to pray over previous entries. When I wake up, I immediately ask myself what am I grateful for, I write it down, and move on with my day.
Do I stop and pray about that morning’s entry? Yes, I do. Do I pray about earlier entries? I haven’t, and that changes right now, because I’m going to continue my gratitude journal every day, now and through 2023.
My Entries this Past Week
[In daily order]
I’m grateful for:
in-person church
a peaceful, God-directed, resolution to a conflict
an opportunity to share Jesus with a not-yet-believer
the Sleep function on my cell phone 😂
our daily bread, that God consistently provides
God’s gratitude that I am His!
a good night’s sleep
In this final post, I’m grateful for God, and for everything He’s blessed us with, particularly new life in Him. I’m grateful for our eternal home where we’ll be in His presence forever, with no evil, no darkness, no sadness, no death…none of the not-from-God things that plague life on this planet.
These four Sundays have helped me see more clearly the importance of praying over previous entries in my gratitude journal. Why?
First, praying over all my entries helps me to review the previous ones and remember what happened that encouraged me to give thanks on that day.
Second, when I pray about a specific entry (or entries), I’m continuing to praise and honor my Abba, who has been very gracious and merciful to me.
Third, praying over my gratitude journal entries removes me from the influence of the enemy’s darkness. My Lord meets me in precious ways during focused prayer, and I can listen to His voice through His Holy Spirit, who lives in me. My time with my Lord conforms me more and more to His image.
