Lies from the Enemy
This is the final post in my series “Affirmations 2023”, inspired by Louie Giglio’s book “Don’t Give the Enemy a Seat at Your Table” (based on Psalm 23).
What’s the final lie from the enemy that I’ll discuss?
“I am ordinary and average.”
At first read, this lie doesn’t seem as harmful as the others we’ve discussed.
And, if you feel okay with the words “ordinary” and “average”, I understand. We live in a world-wide culture in which the media loudly celebrate only those with extraordinary talents and intelligence, hyping them as if they’re demigods.
However, sometimes our enemy uses this lie along with an additional word that may taunt us in our weakest moments. What’s that word?
Just.
“I’m just ordinary and just average.”
When the enemy combines his lie with “just”, the tool of comparison with others, he mixes up a recipe for our downfall.
“She’s so beautiful, so skinny, so gorgeous, and I’m just ordinary, chubby, and just average.”
“He’s got it made with a killer car, a multi-million dollar business, and I’m just ordinary, an hourly wage earner, and just average.”
This lie from the enemy, if you listen to it and believe it, cheats you out of appreciating and delighting in the value, the worth that your Heavenly Father sees in you.
What God Says about You
You can counter the enemy’s lie with this wonderful phrase suggested by Giglio:
“I am extraordinary and unique.”
Are you bold enough to say it out loud?
Give it a try.
Do you believe this phrase? Let’s briefly unpack it.
God created you in His image.
Genesis 1:26-27 (BSB)
26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness, to rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, and over all the earth itself and every creature that crawls upon it.”27 So God created man in His own image;
in the image of God He created him;
male and female He created them.
From the very first breath you inhaled, you became, and are, God’s image bearer. That’s not ordinary nor average.
Then, when you were saved by Jesus, the Lord grabbed you and snatched you away from the enemy’s realm of darkness, disobedience, and death, and transferred you into His heavenly realm of life, peace, hope, joy, faithfulness, and love.
And, God adopted you into His family.
Romans 8:15-17 (BSB)
15 For you did not receive a spirit of slavery that returns you to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. 17 And if we are children, then we are heirs: heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ—if indeed we suffer with Him, so that we may also be glorified with Him.
This is you.
A beloved, adopted child and co-heir with Christ.
God’s image bearer.
Do you truly, deep down, believe this?
Do you live this truth every day?
Psalm 139:14 (BSB)
14 I praise You,
for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Marvelous are Your works,
and I know this very well.
You are fearfully and wonderfully made. There’s only one you, the unique image bearer that God created, who He redeemed for His kingdom so He could have a delightful and loving relationship with you.
Ephesians 2:10 (BSB)
10 For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance as our way of life.
The word workmanship, also translated “handiwork” and “masterpiece” (my favorite) is translated from the Koinē Greek word poiéma [ ποίημα ].
You are God’s poem!
He made you to be His extraordinary and unique child.
Lean into this truth and rejoice in it. Lean into the Lord and trust Him to reveal the good works He wants to do along with you. Then rest and wait on Him.
Your Take Away
You may have read Psalm 139:14 many, many times. And, that’s wonderful for it’s a powerful verse.
But, are you living it?
Daily?
You can.
Take time this week to incorporate the truth of Psalm 139:14, that you are fearfully and wonderfully made by God, into your daily life, into every moment of your day.
Then, ask yourself:
What lies from the enemy have you believed about not being wonderfully made by God?
Which verses in God’s word can you use to fight back against this lie? (Take up the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.)
When are you going to ignore the enemy? (Why not start today!)
If you struggle with believing the truth of God’s amazing love for you, please find a safe and loving person who follows Jesus. Talk with that person about your hesitation, your doubts.
Dear friend, it’s time we all take back what the enemy has stolen through his lies. God’s word, and our relationship with Him, are our keys to victory.
Maranatha, come Lord Jesus.
Soli Deo Gloria!

Another great article by Jenise Cooke-Crabbe! Thanks sister!
"For thus says the LORD, Who created the heavens, Who is God, Who formed the earth and made it, Who has established it, Who did not create it in vain, Who formed it to be inhabited: “I am the LORD, and there is no other." Isaiah 45:18 NKJV
GOD bless you, sister Jenise, and yours. Get well soon!
“And behold, it was very Good.”
“And God saw everything that he had made, "and behold, it was very good." And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.” Genesis 1:31 ESV
Now, let us pray.
Father, how unique are the works of Your hands? Yes, You are our Creator. You are GOD, the only one there is. You made everything good, but concerning us, You made us very good, yes, different from all other things, much more than ordinary, created in Love, made to know You and to Love You without end.
Yes, even before our first breath, oh GOD, You had made plans for us. You knew all about us from eternity past. Nothing about us would be a mystery. Our destiny was set, decreed in wisdom, with every detail purposefully fashioned. Everything about us was already known to You.
So, why do we need to worry about today or tomorrow when knowing that we have been so wonderfully made. Do we need to fear what will happen in the world around us when we have a GOD who made plans for our future, Loves us with an everlasting Love, and will always care for us. Is this not the greatest hope, to know without a shadow of a doubt that our GOD will keep us in His Loving arms, close to His heart forever.
So now may we do good things, too, just like the One who made us so special, letting our lights shine, sharing with others about GOD's love for them, telling them that they are not just ordinary but unique, special people, "fearfully and wonderfully made" one of a kind, created by a GOD who Loves them and has made "very good plans" for their lives, plans to give them a future and a hope, for a better life now and forever.
In Jesus' Mighty Name, we pray on this special day. Amen
Thank You, LORD!
"For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, "so we can do the good things" he planned for us long ago." Ephesians 2:10 NLT
GOD bless you all
Acts 2:17-21 “And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh,
and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
and your young men shall see visions,
and your old men shall dream dreams;
even on my male servants and female servants
in those days I will pour out my Spirit, and they shall prophesy.
And I will show wonders in the heavens above
and signs on the earth below,
blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke;
the sun shall be turned to darkness
and the moon to blood,
before the day of the Lord comes, the great and magnificent day.
And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."
