Lies from the Enemy
Dear Friend,
I’m glad you’re here reading this post. Before you continue reading, please stop and pray for a moment. Ask your Abba to teach you through His Holy Spirit who lives in you.
And, have your paper or digital Bible at hand. Read His word as He leads you. It’s His powerful weapon that He has freely given you to fight all spiritual battles against your adversary.
In Louie Giglio’s book, “Don’t Give the Enemy a Seat at Your Table”, he mentions this lie from the enemy:
“I am worthless and irrelevant.”
No. You’re not.
Just think about the cross and the empty tomb. Jesus Christ was determined to complete His mission of redemption even if you were the only human on Earth.
Yes, you matter that much to Him.
Let’s not spend time on the enemy’s silly, ridiculous, and stupid lies.
You ARE worth it to Christ for Him to have rescued you. You ARE relevant to Him.
So, let’s move on to the good news!
What God Says about You
In his book, Giglio writes that you can speak against the enemy’s lies by declaring God’s truth in His word. You can say:
“I am God’s treasure.”
Deut. 7:6 (ESV)
6 “For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for his treasured possession, out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.
When we treasure something, it’s special to us, and we love it very much. It’s precious to us.
Psalm 135:4 (NJKV)
4 For the Lord has chosen Jacob for Himself,
Israel for His special treasure.
These are precious words from the Old Testament that express Yahweh’s love for His chosen people, Israel. And, as Christ followers, we’ve been adopted by God, grafted in, and we are God’s treasure as well.
John 15:9-17 (NKJV)
9 “As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love.
10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.
11 “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.
12 This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.
13 Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.
14 You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.
15 No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.
16 You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.
17 These things I command you, that you love one another.
It always amazes me that the Son of God, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords calls me His friend!
John 11:5 (NKJV)
5 Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.
Can you imagine being in Jesus’ presence during His earthly ministry? He loved and treassured people. What did it feel like to be near Him, with Him eating a meal?
This next verse just gets me, especially how it ends. I think of Christ on the cross, with the weight of the world’s sins on Him as He gasped for His final breaths:
John 13:1 (NKJV)
1 Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that His hour had come that He should depart from this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.
😭😭😭
Thank You, Jesus!
Your Take Away
If you’ve been in a season of life where it’s hard for you to think that your God’s treasure, you’re not alone. I’ve been in that “head space” way too many times myself. Fatigue, depression, health issues, hard-hitting circumstances of life have knocked the breath out of me in the past, where I despaired of life.
What happened?
Our loving Father rescued me over and over. And, He encouraged me not to listen to the enemy’s lies anymore, but to truly believe His words about me in Him. Because of Christ, I’m a winner over the adversary and I’m God’s treasure.
It helps us all to be a part of a loving group of Christians who support each other in prayer and with words of encouragement and wisdom. Find Christ followers in your church who can speak God’s love to your aching heart. If you’re currently in-between churches, reach out to your fellow believers in your family or your circle of friends, even if they don’t live near you. And, feel free to email me (see button below) if you’d like to chat.
This next week, be bold and courageous, and believe—really believe deep down—that you are God’s treasure. Set time aside in God’s word, sing praise songs, and pray for the Lord to increase your knowledge of Him and of who you are in Him. Remember, the Lord says that one day, you will judge angels! (1 Corinthians 6:13) He has an amazing future in store for you in His eternal realm.
This week, ask yourself:
Do I, deep within me, see myself as God’s treasure? If not, why not? How can I change how I see myself?
Which verses in God’s word can I use to fight back against the enemy’s lies? (Take up the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.)
And, finally…
…let’s run around our homes in our socks and sing:
“I Am God’s Treasure!”
Soli Deo Gloria!
